IL Y A 1 MINUTE : L’épouse de Frédéric François a reçu une très triste nouvelle de son mari.

Frédéric François, born Francesco Baracato on June 3, 1950, in the town of Carafri in Sicily, Italy, is one of the most celebrated and beloved figures in Francophone romantic music.

Known for his evocative voice and soulful ballads, he has captured the hearts of millions over a career spanning more than five decades.

However, beneath the glitz of the stage and his numerous hits, lies a man who has experienced profound sorrow and personal struggles.

Frédéric François grew up in a modest family in Belgium, the son of an Italian immigrant miner. Music was a constant source of inspiration in the Baracato household.

His father, a passionate lover of music, sparked Frédéric’s early interest, and family gatherings often included evenings of Italian folk songs. These formative years laid the foundation for his future in music. At just 12 years old, he joined a local band, marking the beginning of what would become a legendary career.

In 1966, Frédéric took on his stage name, Frédéric François, as he embarked on his professional journey. Although his first single didn’t gain much traction, his persistence paid off when, in 1970, his romantic ballad *Je n’ai jamais aimé comme je t’aimais* became a major hit. This marked the start of a successful trajectory that saw him releasing an array of unforgettable songs, including *Chicago*, *Laisse-moi vivre ma vie*, and *Mon cœur te dit je t’aime*. Through the years, his music became synonymous with themes of love and passion, resonating with fans across the world.

However, despite his success, Frédéric has faced his share of heartache. In a candid interview, he opened up about the greatest sorrow of his life—the loss of his parents. “My parents sacrificed so much for me to follow my dreams,” he said, his voice tinged with emotion. “Losing them felt like losing part of my heart.”

Another defining moment in Frédéric’s life came in the early 2000s when he was hit with serious health issues. Long days spent in bed gave him time to reflect on the true priorities in life. He admitted that it was his music and the love of his family that helped him through this tough period. “I realized that, no matter how important my career was, the most important thing is family and health,” he confessed.

Throughout the ups and downs, Frédéric has always had one steadfast companion: his wife Monique Vercotrun. They married in 1970 and have enjoyed over 50 years of happiness together, raising four children in a close-knit, loving family. Frédéric often refers to Monique as not only his wife but also his greatest source of inspiration. “She is my companion, my mentor, and sometimes my biggest fan,” he said.

Their enduring bond has been reflected in much of Frédéric’s music. One of his most iconic songs, *Je t’aime à l’italienne*, is a deeply romantic tribute to Monique, encapsulating the passion and devotion that define their relationship. Frédéric has often said that every time he felt tired or disheartened, Monique was the first to encourage him to keep going.

For Frédéric, music has always been about more than just entertainment. It’s a means of spreading positivity, love, and hope. He believes that love is the universal language of humanity and that his mission is to bring comfort to others through his songs. “Without family, no matter how successful you are, you’ll always feel empty,” he shared, underscoring the importance of cherishing those close to you.

Now 73 years old, Frédéric continues to perform regularly, sharing his timeless songs with fans who have supported him throughout the years. Although no longer chasing fame, he remains deeply passionate about his craft. “I no longer race for glory,” he said. “I want to dedicate time to what truly matters—music, family, and the fans who have always supported me.”

Frédéric is also working on a new album, which he promises will be a special gift to those who have followed his career. Beyond his music, he is involved in charitable endeavors, particularly projects that support children and patients suffering from severe illnesses. “I want to use my music to bring joy and hope to those who need it most,” he said, embodying the same spirit of generosity that has characterized much of his life.

As Frédéric François continues to embrace the simple joys of life—spending time with family and giving back to the community—he remains an enduring symbol of resilience, love, and the power of music. His legacy is not just built on his chart-topping hits, but on his unwavering dedication to the things that truly matter: his family, his music, and the countless lives he’s touched along the way.
